Roller Rockers????

I want to put roller tip rockers on my 86 Trans Am, 305-4barrel...The Rockers i have on it are factory 1.5 ratio, i want to put 1.6 ratio roller rockers on, do i have to change anything else on my motor in order to put the 1.6's on it?

You'll need SA rr's and they won't be cheap. You'd be much better off changing the weak cam in the LG4 than replacing the rockers.

You could prolly do a cam swap for cheaper than SA RRs, I think...

I'm gonna got with the post ***** on this one. The 1.6 rockers want make a big enough difference on your 305 to justify the cost of them. If you still want to do it, most stock heads need the pushrod holes elongated to run 1.6 rockers.

self aligning, I'd bet those ones you're getting aren't SA. look on the underside that contacts the spring, there should be a sort of lip, that kind of holds the rocker from sliding off.

Elongate as in drilling out the push rod hole so that the push rod does not rub against the head. You have to do this on some stock heads when switchung to 1.6 rockers.

umm, I thought the defination of elongate is to make longer, as sometimes you'll need a longer pushrod.

drilling out the hole, that wouldn't be elongating would it?

Not necessarily, you'll have to get a pushrod measurer, also, if you have stock sa rockers, and the ones you get are non sa, then you'll need screw in studs and guide plates.

you enlongate the holes or slots in the head it has nothing to do with push rod length, but you may need longer than stock push rods, but you don't say you enlongated your push rods.

No, elongate pertains to a hole or slot, means to move one end of it further in a direction.
A pushrod you would lengthin.

And roller rockers would be good...if they're free. But if you were going to buy them they'd be a waste of money and time unless you were building an all out race engine. For street use I'd use (and do) roller tip rockers, the best of both types of rockers in 1.
