350 Engine Build

Ok Guys, I am building 350 for my Iroc. How much did you guys spend on your motors, and what combonations of parts did you use? Are the complete engine kits at Summit Online good? I have a 4-bolt main block ready just need to build it. Thanks.

Paid $1290 for my GM Goodwrench 350. came with crappy cam and heads.

Now I just ordered some aluminum heads for $870 shipped. Already have a Comp 268XE cam $180 with lifters.
Bought a PJ Geardrive for $50 never used.
Weiand Stealth intake $110.
Edelbrock 600 cfm carb $200, now too small so I'm getting a Holley 650 DP for $300.

Edelbrock headers $310 and Hooker cat-back $200
Now ditching that to get coated Hedman long tube headers into dual aero chamber mufflers.

So, quite a bit of money now into it.

hmmm lets see....

350 block and crank - free
.030 overbore - $100
350 kit w/ hyper pistons and cam - $370
vortec heads - $500
vortec intake manifold - $120
600 carb - $100

and all minor things came in kit or had lying around. planning on around 350 hp and 13s in the quarter mile. quite a bit of money, but not a whole lot considering it will be a fast car

350 4 bolt & crank = free
.030 over & all machine work = $360
Stock heads with 1.94, 1.60 ported and polished = $375
Edelbrock performer intake = $100
Edelbrock 600 carb = $260
Edelbrock cam = $130
Rebuild kit = $300
and other misc. things like water pump, plugs and wires, fuel pump, ect.

And make sure you buy new rod bolts. That was how much I spent on the first engine. I spent that again because I didn't buy new rod bolts.

do you have an idea as to how much you want to spend?

the costs can vary widely based on whether you're running a carbed setup, or if you're running fuel injection.

take a good look at some of the examples posted here, and let us know how much power you want to make, and how much you want to pay.

good quality parts will cost a little bit extra.

engine and install 1600
aluminum l98 heads, ported 800
lt4 cam 180
crane roller rocker arms 160ish?
custom prom 100
edelbrock intake 200
slp runners 250
coated headers and ypipe 325
gaskets, helicoils, pushrods, crap 250

That's 3765. Oh boy. I think I may sell those runners.. :\ I didn't realize how much money I put into this car. Full stainless steel exhaust, the rear end and torque converter, and suspension parts puts it over 6k. Damn. It'd hurt to look at the total, especially with all of this msd ignition stuff and all the new sensors, alternators, batteries, starters.. jeeze
