need new intake?

my 85 lg4 t/a has developed a miss when cold I replaced the plugs and wire about 5,000 miles ago added a supercoil and bumped the timing up two or three degree`s but the strange thing that I noticed when checking the wires to make sure that none if them are burnt is that the intake seems to be leaking antifreeze on the pass side front corner is it possible that time and some idiot before me putting dexcool in the car and not near enough of it has ruined my stock aluminum intake?

Hmm, pass side front corner, sounds like a loose t-stat housing.

If it's never been touched, it's probably just gasket deterioration. Same happened to mine about 18 months ago. When I pulled the intake to replace the gaskets, the metal was fine. The gaskets had just gone away.

You may find some pitting of the aluminum, but gasket sealer on both the gasket and intake should do the trick after a good cleaning. Unless the pitting really is bad enough to cause the leakage. In that case, you might want to go with a new intake.

If nothing else, this is a good excuse for a nice Action +...

I've got an action plus perched on top of my block and I'd recommend it.

When you tearing the intake off?

I may wait it out I only drive the car to work and back right now which is a round trip of maybe ten miles a day and I am thinking that come tax return time I might slip a 350 in it I know where I can get one cheap that need a little work but I can buy the whole truck it is in for $500 and drop my 305 back in it and make a couple of hundred when I sell the truck for other goodies like headers and maybe even some vortecs.

If the fool before you put dexcool in it I'd get ready to replace the heater core as well. That stuff ruins old things. I hope you've switched back to the green stuff.

I got rid of the dexcool at the first possible opportunity and put good old green stuff back in about five months ago I guess I got to it in time as I have had no problems other than my very minor leak on the intake but I was lucky enough to know what dexcool would do to the system and he had just replaced the antifreeze when I purchased the car.

i can't picture you're leak exactly put it could be the intake gaskets where if that is the case..... get if fixed now... you dont want the anti-freeze gettin in the oil...... that could waste you're whole bottom end if it gets in teh bearings.

Just exactly what is dexcool? Is that the orange stuff guaranteed for 150,000 miles or 5 years?

so is regular antifreeze, except it is corrosive to alluminum and has a greenish tint to the blackness. I have Dexcool in my nice new 5000 dollar 383 so can someone please tell me ( using actual facts ) what is wrong with it? All new car manufacturers require this stuff for there mostly alluminum engines, whats the problem?

Just make sure your system stay full and has a good cap whn dexcool is exposed to air it forms an acid which eats everthing in the cooling system.
