I want new heads...
Newbie question comming...
I'm in a position now where I think I might possibly *need* new heads (not sure yet, but it's possible). If I end up being forced to buy new heads, I would like to be able to retain my stock TPI setup. What are some "good" heads to go with given that I'm not willing to switch over to a carb/buy a whole new intake (If that's even possible)?
This is on rebuilt, but otherwise stock L98 engine on an '89 IROC.
I should note that I'm not looking to be a king-of-the-mountain racer or anything--I just don't have the money for that. I certainly will welcome any performance gains that come (i.e. more HP), but this is going to be a daily driver.
Any suggestions/starting points you could give me?
Thanks

I just ordered a set of aluminum Pro Lightnings for $870 shipped. They were on sale though, but I talked to the guy and he'll give a group purchase discount of 3 or more sets. I think I have one other guy interested, making you the 2nd.
I assume he sells the 180cc versions too, as that is most likely what you'll want with TPI I assume.
I can get you more info if you want.

I know a guy in Midalothian (sp?) that modifies SBC heads. That's all he does. He's been building roundy rounder motors since the 70's.
He modified my L98 heads (which he says have good potential).
He installed 2.02 1.6 stainless swirl-polished cut-stem hardened-tip valves (plus bowl hogging), 1.44" double springs, molly retainers, new keepers, screw-in studs and guide plates for $450.
He also milled the heads .005" to clean them up, drilled out the pushrod holes to make room for the new pushrods (1.6 rockers), cut down the valve guides (for the .560 lift cam) and installed positive valve stem seals.
I haven't installed them yet, but they look like they will give a nice boost in flow. Best of all, I don't have to worry abt stuff not mounting up right and they look completely stock from the outside.
Email me if you want his #.
