Kumho tires question.
Kumho tires question.
Ok...I remember everyone talking about a particular set of kumho tires from www.tirerack.com . They were pretty cheap and were supposed to be really nice. I was just wondering because next time I have to buy tires im not gonna fork over the money for the sr5000 dunlops again.
BTW tire size is 245/50/16s

My eldest son has low profile Kumhos on his Ford Focus, they are $100 each and only lasted 10,000 miles.
My youngest son has the high speed rated Dunlops on the Camaro, and they handle nicely but they are still fairly new so I can't say how they would wear. We got those from NTS and they were about about $140 each. We wont be buying any more Kumhos.

I had the Kuhmo Supra 712's on my car for awhile.
Great tire if the ground is warm or if it's wet outside. When it was cold, I couldn't get any good traction since the tire is a harder compound. They seem to last pretty long, even with a lot of abuse. I paid $120 each shipped for 275/40/17.

Same ones i have! They handle nice in good and bad weather. Never had them in the cold though. Don't know how long they last, only had them on for a little over 100miles. I heard they do not last too long but for the money they perform great!

My friend has the Ecsta 711's on his Civic(yeah yeah, I don't wanna hear it). He took an almost 360* off ramp pretty hard(alot harder then I'd take it, but I don't like pushing my car SO hard I'm afraid I'll lose control). The car didn't complain, the tires didn't squeal AT ALL. I think they're d@mn nice tires, and our size is only like 55$ a shot. If they had them available when I got my IROC wheels I'd probably have gotten the Ecsta 711's, and seeing how good they are, possibly the 712's. The 711's tread looks almost EXACTLY like the BFG g-Force T/A KDW, check it out at www.tirerack.com

Ecsta 711

BFG G-Force T/A KDW

Ya, they look very similiar, but the 711 doesn't come in 275/40/17.
Oh and I have the BFG's on my car, awesome tire for traction.

I have the 712s on my GTA right now (275/40/17) - same as the ones Zepher has pictures of with the bags on them. They are a W rating which means they are good to 168 MPH and their load rating is 98 which is higher than OEM ratings for our cars (ie they have fairly robust, heavy-duty construction and stiff sidewalls).
I ran them on the car at the track (road course) pretty hard and they worked very well. They were a bit slick until they got up to temp but gripped very well once warm and didn't do much screaming even when pushed to the limit - unless you hit a patch of sealer..... but pretty much all tires scream on the sealer stuff..
They also seem to wear quite well. I pushed them pretty hard with pretty minimal camber and they didn't get shredded on the corners or anything and I put quite a few pretty hard laps on them.
I have heard that they don't have the greatest tread life but personally I really don't care about tread life during normal operations because no tire on my car will ever have it that easy anyways
....
I really have to agree with the comments on their cold traction issues. Obviously when it is really cold, all tires will have problems with traction, but the 712s seem to be a bit more traction-challenged unless you get them warmed up a bit - then they seem above average traction-wise.
Overall I am very satisfied with them considering their price-to-performance ratio and would not have a problem buying them again if my budget dictated so.....
If the money was there I would probably like to give the Ecsta MXs, Eagle F1 SCs or G-Force KDs a try since my car does not see rain/snow if I can help it at all. Top on that list would be the Eagle F1 SCs ($263/ea.) if money is no object
, but with the Ecsta MXs being over $100 cheaper a tire ($148/ea.), I tend to think they will be the next tires to find their way onto my GTA

I like the Falken's myself. Just bought some Falken Ziex 502 for the Trans Am at Discount Tire. 255/50/16's got em for $105 per tire. They even have the rim protector.

If money weren't an issue, I'd be running the G-Force T/A KD on my car.
I'll probably go with the KDW's again, well, I can't really say again, since they were my brothers tires and we kept swapping wheels, put his OZ's on my car and my WS6's on his, but I really like those tires. $668 shipped for 245/45/17 for my front and 285/40/17 for my rear.
