How do i use a non-inductive timing light?
Okay, i think i have a non inductive timing light. i got it at a garage sale a while ago and would like to try to use it. Im pretty sure its non inductive because the clip is just a bare metal alligator type clip. I guess its called a "series timing light"? i duno, can someone tell me how to use it?

It should have a spring that the clip attaches to. You yank a plug wire and put the spring in-line between the wire & plug (or wire & cap connection).

Especially with a multiple spark discharge unit and high-output coil. Eghew. I can still feel it.
Spend the $20 and get an inductive light.

What's so dangerous about it? 1.21 jigawatts never hurt nobody.
I've been shocked by mine more times than I can count. You get used to it after a while.

Oh, c'mon. Let him learn the hard way. It's more fun to watch....

cool, were can i get a $20 inductive light?

I should have bypassed the MSD unit anyway to set timing. The cheap inductive timing lights seem not to like the multiple sparks.

All you really need is a lightbulb and a piece of wire.

actually, i was wondering, why couldnt you just hook up a flash bulb from a disposable camera either parallel or in series with the no 1 spark plug?

Okay, i just checked my timing with an inductive light, and its at 12* advance. I think i did it right: got the car to operating temp, pulled the ECT wire, hooked up the light to the #1 plug and fired away... Im gonna set it back to 6* when i get one of those stinking wrenches to get at the dist. bolt. But could the 12* advance be whats causing me to have a hesitation when accelerating from a standstill, or after ive let off the gas for a turn and then hit the gas after the turn?
