Look what santa stuffed into my sock!

Yeah, the heads for the Minirammed 385 are HERE! In addition, so is the digital camera. Expect a MAJOR web site revamp at ws6transam.org, where I expect to have a whole page dedicated to the purchase, testing, and competition porting of these heads. I've already completed two levels of flow testing and I'm about to make the first modification to the exhaust and intake port in order to find more flow. The goal is to pick up 25 cfm on the intake and 30 cfm on the exhaust.

Currently they are flowing 254 cfm at .500 inch lift on the intake, and 182 cfm on the exhaust.

I'm excited! :lala:

Guess what else is under the Christmas tree?

I know for a fact that there are some wrapped speed parts under there, in addition to the stuff too big to wrap. Dad has been good this year.

I got some more eye candy for ya:
A TPIS Miniram.

It's sitting right here in a box, ready to top off those AFR195's....and yes, this is an actual picture of it. It's loaded with a 58mm throttle body and 30 pound fuel injectors. There are also some nitrous spraybars mounted directly behind the throttle plates.

The stroker 385 shortblock is assembled and on the engine stand: An internally balanced, all forged bottom end with ceramic coated Lunati lightweight racing pistons. It sports a custom Comp Cams hydraulic roller with AFR Hydrarev kit and Comp Cams pro magnum rockers.

I'm working on the revised website right now. I have a new technical article that I am working on that details my battery of flow tests on the AFR cylinder heads. The initial tests show that my flow numbers are always within five percent of AFR advertised flow numbers from .100 to .600" of lift.

I'm hoping to build it all into a highly bullet resistant, eleven-second, 121MPH motor.

Cheers,
--Daniel Burk

besides that, well done! it will scream...

heres a pic of my 383 in the long block stage, it has the 190's with stealth and 30lb ford injectors.

Well Ben, I must confess. My "Santa" is my wife who allowed me to set a $200 a month budget back in spring of 1998. I've been slowly saving and buying stuff since then. The Miniram was purchased in the summer of 2000 and has been sitting ever since. It's used, but not by much. An internet guy I know named Curt Martin owned it, and he did the polishing. I will be detailing it in a custom powdercoat, but I am not sure the color scheme I'll be using yet. Don't worry, the polish will still be a big part of the look.

The shortblock took me 18 months to build. The heads arrived just a few weeks ago, and so did the headers.

Santa DID send me something in the mail last week though: A mysterious engineer from Walbro sent me an in-tank electric turbine fuel pump free of charge. It's sourced from the upcoming 2004 Corvette Z06 program and can deliver a true 190 lph at 60 psi. It's an engineering sample for my "evaluation".

In case you are wondering, I have owned my Trans Am since 1990, and I've had a modest speed parts savings program for it since 1991. It wasn't until 1998 that I actually started spending money on things that made it go faster.

Dans82bird: Dont hate - - - just save your money and keep scanning the online classified ads! Every part that I have purchased has been bought off the internet, and most of them are from the thirdgen.org or CamaroZ28.com classified ads. The headers were a special internet Group purchase by Jet Hot, the heads were from Thunder Racing (a thirdgen.org sponsor), the Miniram from a fellow list member. The cam was a thirdgen.org classified ad special. Same thing with the new Pro Magnum roller rockers, which I bought from the same guy I bought the cam from. The shortblock came from an internet friend, and the reciprocating assembly came from Dallas Export Sales, another internet specialist. All in all, I've probably saved 30 percent or more. It's probably going to ring in at a total of around $6500 for the running engine.

'Course, that doesnt include the suspension and brake work that I've already done in preparation for the motor. I still need to buy and install the roll cage. I'll probably put in a Kenny Brown performance piece.

Hey man, I've been there. I once worked up to $6.89 / hr. as a computer service tech back in 1986. I joined the Air Force and after that, never made more than $5.50 / hr. until college graduation in 1995.

Back when I was earning $4.50 an hour, and just making enough money to buy a burger, big gulp, car payment, and gas, I had a big pickle jar into which I threw my spare change. I saved for about a year.

One day I emptied the pickle jar, bought a $15 junkyard Quadrajet intake, three cans of paint, a J.C. Whitney engine dressup kit, a rebuilt Quadrajet, a $50 General Kinetics cam, and a B&M shift kit. I then proceeded to re-do the 305 in my '77 Camaro, and black out the grille. That's how we all start! Have fun with it---

If it makes ya feel any better, I had a Mitsubishi Mirage when I started college. Only 100% import car my family ever owned. Got me and my dad into 7 accidents. We have clean records otherwise. LOL After that, It was all about the 86 'Bird and the 83 TA (that was the beater that the previous owner got in a fender bender with).

In case I forgot to mention.....

I probably should mention that I've started revising my website, complete with plenty of new photographs of the above parts.

Traffic is running at around 10,000 visitors a month right now.

http://www.ws6transam.org/fcar.html

See what you guys think. The AFR link is pretty cool, I just added it this morning.

***edit: Sorry about the link, I forgot to add the "html" to the end. It should work now.

I would be interested to see what kinds of improvement you get out of porting those heads. How long do you think it will be before you get them done?
