Opinions on Holley SR intake w/ Iron Eagle 230cc?

Anyone got an opinion on the combo of a Stealth Ram intake w/ Dart Iron Eagle 230cc on a 355CID?
Does anyone have experience w/ or know if that specific combo has been tried?
Thanks for any input.

Well, I am looking at the 200 iron eagles, but with a carb. The 230's may be too big for the 355. I am going with the 200's on a 383. Anyways the iron eagles are good heads. Most engine builders in my area say that the iron eagles outflow the pro 1's.

That is with a little porting.

You shouldnt have any problems with the iron eagle heads (not sure about 230's) and the stealth ram. I would check out what intake gaskets the heads use and see if it will fit the intake. I think the 200's require the felpro 1205 and the bigger runners heads require the 1206. I think the max on the stealth ram may be the 1206 gasket. Check with the guys that have the stealth ram and see gasket they are using.

If the 230 are already sized to 1206 gaskets, the StealthRam will not work.

The stealthram will work, it just has to be welded. I used a welded accel lower with superram which was matched to a 1206.

No big deal, just more money.

You can get the 215 cc, they only require the 1205 gasket. Check out there site. It tells which gasket for which head. The 200's or 215's should have plenty flow for the 355.

Guess I should have went into more detail. As 89 says, you could weld it up. However, you'll have to get it resurfaced and probably have to run a .090 or .120 thick gasket (most are 1/16"/ .060). Plus, you can't take the HSR all the way out to a 1206 gasket without removing the stop ring in the injector boss. So,,, you'll have to port around the injector area (leaving a bump of sorts). As 89 said, it really isn't that big of a deal, but it does jack the price of the intake up and complicates things a little.

BluegrassZ has a good point though. If you don't already have the heads, consider the 215's. They'll perform as good or better than the 230's in all but the most extreme street / strip combinations (out-of-the-box) - and the StealthRam would bolt right up.

thanks for the input

Thanks for input guys. That intake gasket issue hadn't crossed my mind. I do already have both components- got a hell of a deal on the heads and would have bought them anyway. Maybe I can come up w/ something creative or just find a different set of heads.

On a 383, what heads will work better, 215cc or 230cc?

with a weiand street avenger intake manifold, still don't know what carb to put on ... maybe a 670

215's should be fine. I would go with atleast a 750 no less.

Gofast, would you consider selling the heads? if so how much?

Bluegrassz-
I don't think I want to sell. I got these from a good friend and I wouldn't feel right selling them when I know he could have made good money on them himself. According to Doug Flynn (Chevytalk.com post) I should be able to gasket match the intake to a 1206 gasket. Then all I have to worry about is making any torque in the low RPM range.
Thanks for the offer and the interest.

no poblem. Just glad to know that you will be able to use them with the stealth ram. I know some of the other guys had problems with the intake and the 1206's, but hopefully you can get them to work.

Just looking out for fellow thirgeners.

If you’re referring to Doug’s 2/02 post on ChevyTalk, you might want to ask the question now. I don’t think he had his hands on a production piece in February. In fact, do a search there using “1206” - a later post points to the same thread that I included early.

However, IF and I repeat IF the ports on your heads are smaller than the 1206 gasket opening (most out of the box heads are) then there is a chance the HSR would work without welding. You’ll probably have to elongate the bolt holes in the 1206 gasket to sit as low as possible on the head without the gasket protruding into the port opening though. If you don’t drop the gasket,,, the corners of the blue silicone ring around the ports will probably stick out from the manifold – that’s how tight things are with a 1206 gasket. There is still the injector boss issue from my previous post you'll still need to consider - so good luck and be careful. Let us know how it worked out for you!
