Anyone have any tips on getting an extremely stuck on balancer off? I already stripped the threads on my balancer puller tool. I tried putting spacers on the bolts so i could use the shaft of the puller higher up that was still good, but it just stripped up there too. It's stripped nearly all the was up the shaft, so i'm gonna need to get another one i guess. I tried putting a strap through the balancer and tightening it down to a post to create tension while i was pulling, but that did nothing. Anyone have any rememdies for stuck on balancers?
Also, look at this pic, does it appear that the outer ring has slipped backwards??? Might explain why the motor never liked what i *thought* was ideal timing...

Did you grease the threads on the puller? If not, be sure to grease the new one.
Are you using a wrench or impact gun? I've found that impact guns work alot better on stubborn balancers.
Its hard to say if it slipped or not. I've seen them sitting more towards the back like that before, but the bottom part looks like there is more gap than the top. If thats the case, yea it did slip.

I think the outer ring has slipt........
You might want to heat up the damper a little with a "heater-gun" (dont know if this is the correct word) and use "anti-rust" spray (WD-40). Spray, heat, spray, heat and so on..........
And when you have tighten the "puller" it might help shocking the damper.....hit it carefully with a hammer.....

Thats about how my balancer looked when i replaced it, but mine may have slipped more because it was rubbing on the timing chain cover. At least it didnt rub all the way through it.
My balancer was easy to get off though and more of a pain to get on. The original balancer had over 190k on it though so it served its life well.

I got it off, turns out it hasn't slipped at all. When i put the new timing chain on i aligned the marks perfectly and put the balancer back on. It was sitting right at 0*. Go figure.....
