turn signal lever...

ok... my turn signal/wiper/brights/c.control lever is all messed up, I took out cruise anyway so I nabbed a lever from a 87 pontiac 6000 (it just pulled out of the switch/cam thing). I tried pulling mine out but I messed it up even more My question is - How do I get it off? Do I have to pull the steering wheel off?

The base of the lever is attached to the turn signal switch with a screw. The steering wheel must be removed to access this screw.

I got it out last night, just a quarter turn and it popped out, the cruise control wires I just fished out through the steering column

...but the base of the lever is still in there on the turn signal switch. If you have a switch problem (not just a lever problem) you'll have to remove the wheel.
