heater core!!

heater core!!

Help!! Hope to replace this weekend.Heatercore went out in my 87 TA. Looking at it looks like you go end from the front not from the dash. Is that a good guess or am I wrong? Any help would be appreciated not a skilled mechanic just have a general feel for it

do you have the repair manual? I replaced my heatercore last spring, it took only 2 hours and I took my time. Just follow the instuctions in the manual. It's not hard only timeconsuming. There's a lot to take off, but it's mostly screws. Don't forget to drain the system. If you take off the passenger side hush panel and the panel right below the glove "bag" you will be able to see a really good view of the heatercore holder.( big black plastic thingy)

I would pick up a a repair book if you don't have one. It helps alot. See if you can take off the kick panel first to get to the heatercore.if you can't then your gonna have to loosen up alot of the dash. you gonna have alot of screws to take out so i would keep track of them.

I am assuming that an '87 is the same as a '92. I have done the core in my '92 RS. You will have to take off the dash pad to get to the top screw on the heater box (the black box covering the heater core). You may also have to take out the front passenger side speaker to reach the top screw. After you get the top screw out the cover will come out from the bottom of the dash. From there if you look up you will see the heater core. It looks like a little radiator. There will be some retaining screw to remove. And don't forget the heater hoses in the engine compartment. Be prepared for it to leak when you take it out. Have some newspaper or plastice on the floor board just in case.

Getting the heater core inlet and outlet through the fire wall will be a little tricky. But a little patience will go a long way. Just be gentle if you have to bend the inlets to match the fire wall holes.

After that, putting it all back together is the easy part.

or you could just get pissed off and just break the heater box instead of taking the rest of the dash out. I broke it bad but fixed it with silicone and duct tape LOL.

Replaced heater core. Man, Bill that one screw up top of shroud was a booger bear. Lost my religion or what is left of it several times. But like you said I was patient and finally got it thanks for the info. May call on you again on next project having gas gauge problems.

Yep the top one is a real bear. But once that one is off the hardest part is getting the tubes thruough the fire will. After that you are home free.

Glad it worked out for you.

I don't know much about the gas gauge. More than likely it is the float in your gas tank. Gotta drop the gas tank for that one. Should be another religious experience for ya.

And when you replace the gauge sender, grab a few extra bills out of the donation plate as it passes by, since you might as well drop another hundred bucks on a new AC fuel pump and inlet filter once it's out.

That one ought to test your faith and conviction....
