A Couple Of Questions

I will be putting a stock LT1 cam in my car in a few months and had a couple of questions. The first is will I need new valve springs to handle the lift? If I do I will be going with either Comp or Lunati. Also I do not know the specs on a stock LT1 cam so If you know them could you please post them. My current springs are stock BTW. My other question is what rear gear would you all recommend? I have the V-6 T-5 so first gear is low (4.11 I believe). Thanks!

I was told it's always a good idea to change springs when going to a bigger cam. Specially if yours have a lot of miles on them.

Why the stock lt1 cam? You can do much better than that for the hassle of swapping cams and springs.

Go to the tech article on cams to find some specs.

the LT1 cam seems to be a popular choice on here for LO3 engines, and tehy can be picked up relatively cheap.

Doing a cam swap is a little time consuming, I'd get the best one you can that your budget allows.

I know your right Mark,I should change the springs anyway, but $$$$ is always an issue. The motor only has about 50 miles on it since it was tore down and everything was measured. I will probably change them, but I didn't know which ones. The reason for the stock LT1 cam was because its FREE and anything is better than the stock LG4 cam.

The LT1 cam is about perfect for a 305, though. You can get away without having to machine the heads for bigger springs.

Just replace the ones you have on there with some stiffer ones. Of course, if you can port and polish the heads at the same time, that would REALLY make the old 305 haul

So, were '87 LG4s roller motors? I never knew there was an LG4 roller, but rollers started in '87

Thanks for all the replys guys! Well, it looks like the cam and springs will have to wait a little longer. Last night on the way to the company Christmas party my tie rods and ball joints decided it was time to go. Its so bad I can feel the pop in the floorboard.... though I did show a Prelude his place! My first race since I've been driving my IROC! Does anyone have an idea on some gears that would match that cam well. These 2.73's suck and I want to change them when I change the open rear to a posi. Thanks again!
