What years did GM start putting vortec heads on their pick-ups?

 

1998 I believe

 

I beleive it is 96.My mom has a 96 tahoe with a vortec 350 in it.I am almost sure it is 96.We swapped the original motor out for a new vortec crate motor.So now I got the heads of the old motor.Which I am trying to find someone that can put screw in studs,stiffer springs and machine them however they do.There is performance shop here in town that just moved here.So I am going to check them out.


Anyway.yeah it is 1996

 

i believe they called stuff vortecs before 1996, however when people refer to vortec heads they are referring to the ones that started in 1996. they ran through 1998. and i think they carried on a new style of heads also called vortec afterwards.

 

The desired Vortec L31 head was introduced in 1996. The 305 and 350 heads differed slightly however. The 305 Vortec head is missing some of the key power characteristics the 350 head has.
