if an LT1 intake will fit, why not an LS1 intake?

Now i know the LS1 blocks are totaly differen't. But has anyone tried to see how close the LS1 intake is to fitting? I mean no one probably thought the LT1 intake was possible until it was tried... just a though..:lala:

The thing is that the LT1 intake ports line up, the LS1 ports don't. You may as well fabricate an entire new intake like the LS1, instead of trying to make it fit.

Since mods can't ask questions The LS1 is completely different from the standard small block chevy and if you don't own one you probably don't know them well. Since this is a thirdgen board, I guess LS1, LT1 and all import knowledge is required to be a knowledgeable and upstanding member and/or mod.

To the original question, the LS1 intake won't work because the intake ports aren't "paired" like the standard small block.

SBC Intake:
....24....68
13....57

LS1 Intake:
..2..4..6..8
1..3..5..7

Plus different bolt patterns and I think the distributor would end up running through the runners for the rear cylinders.

Damn... moderator doesnt know something and they get ripped to shreds. Jesus, give the guy a break, his job isnt to be all knowledgable but jsut to keep the peace and make sure everything flows smoothly.

The way you learn things is to ask, if you just bash them all they learn is that you are either stuck up or selfish.

It was a good question, not everybody has really looked at the ls1 intake.

Let me post this picture of a LS1 head to finally put the LS1 intake question to rest. The head on the right shows the intake side, look at the ports they are huge and very tall! Not even close and the angle is way off to. SBC's use what, a 23° angle head? The LS1 head is 15°.

What the crap!!

Those are wild looking intake ports!!
What does that do to the flow characteristics? Higher velocity? Must be hard for the air on the long side radius of the intake port to make such a big turn into the cylinder.

Thirdgen.org used to host some really good info, with people posting questions not covered in the usual books, and the answers were invaluable.

Over the past year, the majority of posts seem to fall into two categories:

1.) "I worked on my car and broke something...please help need help asap!!!!!"

2.) "I want to know something really obvious, but don't feel like reading or searching."

Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like the signal to noise ratio here is dropping like a brick...

I wasn't denying that LS1's make power, but I was just asking what a port shaped like that does to flow. What are the benefits, why would the engineers pick a port like that? Again, not skeptical that it makes power, just wondering why.

Correct me if im wrong but i think this site has really been gaining popularity so there are alot of new people aboard that dont know alot about cars as of yet and, of coarse, there are going to be alot of newbie posts to go along with them.

The valve angle is actually even less, 15 degrees....
Also it would be pretty hard to modify the glass composite intake in any way, maybe epoxy.....

Slepac is correct, the LS1 uses a 15° valve angle.
