starter sticks wide open!! pls help

I had to replace my starter the other day b/c it was acting up and one of the problems was that it would stick open occasionally. Today I went to start the car and low and behold, it stuck open. I had to disconnect the battery b4 it killed the battery. What would cause this?

Sounds like somethin in your ignition switch or somethin. Like it is not releasing when you stop trying to start it. Or, maybe you bought a bad starter. If you bought it at advanced auto or autzone, that could be the case.

I had this problem once it was because the 2 wires on the starter were touching each other (the ones that arent ment to touch each other...)

Damn thats pretty scary when your starter goes crazy and starts smoking...

I had this problem once too. When I put the starter on I had it in a "bind". Try loosening the starter and holding it against the block so its flush with its mounting spot on the block. It may also be too tight against the flywheel/flexplate and needs to be shimmed.
