Charcoal cannister

Can you remove the Charcoal cannister? I dont have an EGR,Air injection system,Cat,Muffler, or any of those systems. Can I eliminate the charcoal cannister as well?

I did. The charcoal canister is used to vent the gas tank. The vapors in the tank are drawn into the canister and then into the carb or fuel injection system instead of venting into the atmosphere.

Yes, you can. I have eliminated it on mine. The only real decision you have to make is what to do with the hardline that ran from the tank to the canister (this is the line the fuel vapors ran through and was joined to the canister via a rubber hose). There are two methods ...

1) Cap it. The Cons of this are that people will tell you that you CANNOT cap it because the tank builds pressure and it needs to be released. I have 2 friends running with it capped and they have no problems. Fact is - there are 4 lines coming from the tank ... feed, return, canister, and another that has a release valve to let excess pressure out and air into the tank.
2) Don't cap it but run a piece of rubber hose to a small import fuel filter and then tuck this into the front fender somewhere.

I took the second route.

If you eliminate the can, I would also recommend getting a vented gas cap. Our cars are not as picky about this as newer EFIs, but why risk it?

The whole purpose of the canister is to vent the fumes somewhere if pressure builds into the tank. Once you start the car, fumes get sucked into carb and burned in engine. I've had issues with this converting from CC Q-jet to DFI. It does serve a purpose. My old 72 chevelle had one, and that's before catalytic converters and emissions testing!!
