Insurance Question

Hi guys this is gonan sound dumb but i just thought i would ask. Well i just purchased an 89 rs and we just dropped a new crate engine in it. However it is registered to the insurance company as a stock rs. well i was wondering does anyone know what droppin a new engine in the car would cuz the price to go way up. also if i dont report it its only under liability so is this ok since the only way i would be losing out is if i get hit cuz i wont get near the amount i have put into the car. Im 18 years old and pay about 100 a month with a b average

you will probably be better off not telling your insurance company, if you do tell them im sure it will probably go up at least 20 bucks a month, besides if you get into an accident most likely your engine will be fine

The car was delivered with a new engine when it was new, so what's the difference? I would conveniently forget to mention it to them.

don't mention it. the difference in insurance costs and the difference in their opinion of a $$$ amount on the engine wouldn't make it worth it for you if the car got totaled.

I do not know how the law reads, but it may also pay to look at this topic from the perspective of the insurance guy:
"Did this big fancy motor cause you to have the accident?"

I don't know much about insurance, but I can see an agent asking that question if you happen to be involved in an accident where you are found to be at fault. Especially if it involves speed.

Just trying to look at from a different perspective.

Drive safe and you'll be fine.

And don't forget to have fun!

I work for an insurance company and I can tell you it will not effect your premium unless you want it covered (gotta have comp/collision to add the coverage). In most states it is called additional customer parts and equipment or add on equipment. If your vehicle is in an accident and is considered a total loss you will not get your additional expense reimbursed unless you have the coverage. Your motor came with the car so it doesn't matter but for example I have the max acpe in texas which is $5000.00 (anything above 5000 you have to rate the vehicle at stated amount, stated amount= very expensive) and it increased my premium $28 for the whole year. If I get in a wreck and my car is totaled I will get market value plus $5000.00.

I would get approximately $9000 if my cars market value in tx is $4000.00 on average. Oh yea in the event of a claim you do have to provide your adjuster receipts.

And BELIEVE me adjusters know that an "engine made me do it" is not the reason for the accident. 4hp or 400 a wreck is still a wreck. I have seen when civics, vettes, etc wreck at high speeds and it usually ends with lots of injuries and property damage. The damage to the cars are about the same no matter how big the engine is.

Thanks for the additional post- I thought they could try to use it (it being a different high HP motor) to deny a claim.

Thanks!

well if your were racing on a track then the adjuster could deny a claim but if on the highway and just speeding or driving the speed limit I don't see a problem.

HeHe everyone thinks insurance companies are out to get them!!!!
