The Mystery Engine

I have a very weird engine here..

BORED 307 TBI

alright, It has around 10,000km on it, its brand new, I bought a brand new block and had it bored out etc.. Had it built by a professional. Cost me an arm and a leg.

Ok here we go:

Ive had this car checked out by so many people, noone knows the problem. My car wont start, I dont know what the problem is guys. I took it to my buddies garage, his dad said "oh its the ignition module thats the problem, so he installed a new one and it started, I took it home BAM wont start agian, he checked to see if there was fuel coming threw the lines, there was... than he said it was the lifters that needed adjusting, and he re-ajusted my fireing order which wasent even set correctly, car started fine and everything, took it home, dosent work anymore. Back to the garage I go, he checked to see if there was fuel coming in agian, and there was everything should be fine he said, I took it to the guy who built my engine, he said a sensor was off that tells my engine how much gas it needs to start and so on.. so he replaced that for me and adjusted the lifters and said the car started fine everyday he had it at the shop. I took it home, car wont start...
all this threw a 3 month period guys, im fed up with this car.
whats the problem.

I NEED A REPLY FROM REAL MECHANICS PLEASE
I dont need to hear pitty comments I need REAL ANSWERS please.

THANKS CYA

No-start is the easiest car malfunction to diagnose.

3 ingredients are required for an engine to run: compression, reasonable amount of fuel, and spark at the right time. All you have to do is figure out which is missing (or excessive as the case may be).

Take the spark plugs out and see if they're wet with fuel and fouled. Put new ones back in.

See if it starts. Yes? Problem solved. No? Squirt starting fluid in. See if it starts. Yes? Fuel delivery. No? Spark. etc.

It's all logic. Don't approach it wiht the "I changed it last month it must be good" or any of that, put everything out of your mind except for simple yes/no type tests you can perform. Resist the temptation to just spend $$$$ swapping parts.

I'll take finding a no-start any day over finding a runs-like-crap type thing. It's so easy.

I got brand new spark plugs in there, the car started, only becuase it was hot! Took the car home, wouldent start.

Starting Fluid didnt work either. And yes ive tried many times.
Ill try to change the Ignition module agian, if it works agian, Yippie, for now im very unhappy with my camaro.

This will be the 3rd Ignition module that has been replaced.
So can u figure out anything else?

Lets see, I have compression now, I have Fuel!
And now its down to the spark all over agian.

Spark:

Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coil, pickup coil, module, make sure there's a good solid 12V supply. Not much else in that system could cause a no-start.

Check your fuel pressure. Just because theres fuel coming through the lines, doesent mean enought fuel is coming through. If you've already gone over your entire ignition, I would start looking elsewhere like fuel delivery.

If it was a fuel problem, I would be getting irregular spray at the front, and im not getting any problem, the spray is great.

Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coil, pickup coil, module:

had that all replaced when I got my engine.
The module we suspected was the problem from the start.
The wires are fine, the plugs are fine, the rotor is fine, the coil is brand new.. etc..

Be sure to put the heat-insulating goop on the bottom of the module. They can cook in no time.

If you have to replace it, use a Blue Streak. Extremely good quality.

i had a problem kinda like this, check the pick-up coil in the center of the distributor, you have to pull the distributor, take off the gears, the cap, and all the guts, thent ake it out and replace it, 25 bucks at napa, and that might solve it. also you must put on that heat goop stuff that comes with the moduel otherwiese they are deep fried.

Sqweeks is on to something there but you need to do a couple of things.
1st... Remove the coil wire from the distributor cap. With it still attached to the coil hold the end close to the engine somewhere and see if it jump spark when the engine cranks over. If so .. reconnect it and Pull a plug wire off a spark plug and see if it has spark. If not bad cap and rotor.

If not look at coil and see if it has white chalky stripes along the edges. If so you can try that first cause it need be replaced anyway. But put a pick up and modual in it.. Resistance is the root to failures with ignition systems.. make sure cap, rotor, coil are all good any wayGotta hit it.. hope this helps...

If you have a digital camera, pull a plug, take a picture of it and post it. That will tell a lot about your problem, and help diagnose it.

Thanks for everyones help!

Me and my buddies took another crack at it, we tried getting it start for over an hour!!!!! in -20 deg. C
than we went inside to warm up and in 10 min. we were back at it, we start to pull parts out and replacing them agian. After trying parts out, we singled it out to be the coil. and so that answers the question. I put in another coil for now.
See how it will do,
it started agian today after sitting all night, with temp. reaching well over -30 deg. C

and oh yeah.. tonight its going to be -32 deg. C with windchill
will see tommorw.

Good luck with the engine, the pic looks great.
