low/no oil pressure?

got my car running but wtf, the gauge (stock cluster) is reading in the red (it moves up a little from bottom but still in the red) and when i pull off the sender wire it pegs.... my engine seems to run fine so i think im getting enough pressure.. could the sender or gauge be messed up?

If its a GM peice, you can count on it being off somewhat.

Temporarily connect a mechanical gauge to the sender test port and read the actual pressure. If it doesn't agree with the dash gauge, don't be surprised.

a couple ?s

did you build the motor?

If so did you plastigauge the main and rod bearings?

if you rebuilt it, what oil pump did you use?

and i had a 350 a while back that i quickly threw together and it did the same thing, ran good but had no oil pressure, i had the crank turned and new bearings so i thought it was alright, turns out the block needs align bored. so now i have a 406 in it that i took my time putting together and measured everything twice and out a new oil pump in and its getting 58 psi of oil pressure hot. good luck with it

now that ive let the ones with any engine know-how speak their piece.

1. did you put oil in your car when/if the engine was built?
2. are you leaking oil?

sorry to be such a simpleton

The senders go bad alot, and they don't cost much.... Personally I'd go directly to paying $18 or whatever for a new one, skip all that hookin up and fooling around, and then pay $18 and change it out anyway...
