(Non ThirdGen) Help with fuel pump.

I am working on my sister in laws 93 Eagle Talon. She was just driving down the road and her car quit on her. It will turn over but will not start. I turned the key on and did not hear the fuel pump run so I went with that diagnosis. Well, last night I changed the fuel pump and still nothing. In checking things out, I noticed that there is no power going to the fuel pump. I checked it with a test light. I was wondering if there is a fuel pump relay somewhere? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Does the manual say anything? Typically there are fuel pump relays so that all of that electrical current to the pump doesn't run through the ignition circuit. There may also be an in-line fuse some where in the circuit.

You can usually find out what's there by looking at the wiring schematic.

I don't have a manual on the car but I do need to get one. I have looked at the fuse box in the car under the dash and I didn't see one that says fuel pump. I also found two more fuse boxes under the hood that do not say anything about the fuel pump. Tonight I plan to physically take every fuse out and inspect them. Thanks guys. Any more suggestions before I go back over there and check it out?

94,

Is this one of those with the fuel pump access panel under the right rear seat? (Been there.) IIRC, there is a fuse in the engine compartment for the pump, as well as a relay in the fuse panel INSIDE the car (near the driver's footwell). Remove and test the relay - they seem to be a weak area.

EDIT: BTW - the relay is supposed to cycle for 1½-2 seconds every time the ignition is cycled OFF-ON, with no 20-second wait like on our cars. Find the clicking relay in the fuse panel INSIDE the car and you may have solved the problem.

And another thing, there is also supposed to be a fuel pump test terminal in the engine compartment, right near the battery. You can supply +12VDC to the test terminal and it is supposed to bypass the relay and fuse to operate the pump. I just did one of these last summer, but my memory is a little sketchy. This was on a Mitsubishi Eclipse, but it's the same car with different badges. (Good old "American" Chryslers - way to go, Lee!)

Thanks for the ideas Vader. This is a 93 and it doesn't have a fuel pump access door from the inside. The fuel pump comes out of the back of the tank. I didn't have to drop the tank at all. I did see a black thing above the fuse block inside the car. I also did hear it click when I turn the key. I didn't get a chance to look at the car tonight but I plan to tomorrow night.
