performer rpm heads .100 longer pr???
hi,
my 84 z28 needs some help, cant seem to get it running right, seems sorta like a timing problem, but we've tried timing it,and still same results, here wat it has,
77 350,comp cam 268h. cam, edelbrock performer rpm heads,"70cc"weiand stealth intake, carter carb, and, aftermarket high energy distributor from jegs, coil in cap,now i just saw this the other day,my heads,i think its in jegs, say my heads require .100 longer pushrods, and i reused factory, would this make my car run like a dog?thanks for your time.

If I recall you MIGHT need the longer push rods if your using stock rockers & some brands of rollers with Edelbrock heads. It realy had more to do with wear because the rockers whould chaff on the spring retainers. (I believe?)
Oh, one more thing is you NEED hardered push rods for the Eddie heads.

Get yourself a pushrod length checking tool ($23 from summit) and a solid lifter along with some dial calipers.
Follow the directions found here http://www.compcams.com/information/Products/Pushrods/
If the head mfg says you need longer pushrods, you'd best check to be sure of what you need.

I bought the Edelbrock hardened pushrods, which I'm not even sure if there .1 longer (3 years ago). However I have Crane Roller Rockers, and had no problems with hitting the retainers.
As far as affecting performace, I don't know and is a good question. But don't get one sited on that being your overall problem. You might double check that your timing curve & that your total timing is correct. The biggest mistake I notice is people who focus on idle timing which fine on a stock car, but with a non computerize setup total timing is credical for performance. Make sure your timing at 3000 rpm, vacuum advance disconnected. You want about 36°.
