Engine knock/gas ping?
Hey there....I recently just read somewhere that an engine knock can be caused by a bad timing setting? Is this true? I know high mileage can cause it (and this things got ALOT of miles 160K, but still runnin strong) but is there anything else??
thanks!

ok wel the weak spark thing woudl make sense as I'm sure the thing really needs a tune up......higher octane gas sure does help....I'll look into that stuff thanks!!!
any cheap ways to get rid of engine deposits?

That's a cheap way to get deposits out. Hey since we're talkin about gasoline, what octane rating are you guys with stock 350s using? I've always put the premium stuff (93) since I read a long time ago that the 350 motors are high compression motors. But is 91 also good or would that be too low?

It's not bad as long as it's a mist. A mechanic I used to work with suggested I do this on my car and I guess it has the same effects as if you were using one of those FI cleaners that hook up to the TB and get sucked in by engine vacuum to break down deposits.

be sure to take off the cat first, big chuncks of carbon come out the exauast and get caught in the cat cloging it up.

Stock 350s are not high compression engines and don't need 93 octane.

1.> disconnect headders/exauast manifold from exauast(applys only if you have a catalitic converter)
2.>remove air cleaner
3.>fill a spray botel with water
4.>rev engine to 1500 RPM's or so
5.>spray water into TB or carb keeping rpm's at 1500 or so
6.>reinstall exauast and air cleaner
7.>clean up the mess of carbon on your driveway
8.>enjoy your newfound power and the fact that you don't have to run on super everywhere

How many times should you spray the water into the carb? and could one just disconnect the exhuast before it enters the cat or do the manifolds have to be disconnected too?
