igition switch
igition switch
well, car wouldnt start today, so changed the starter. still didnt start. got told it might be the ignition switch. got three questions:
1: where is the damn thing!?!?!? looked all under the dash and couldnt find it
2: did i get the right thing? got borg warner PN CS142, has a bunch of prongs on one side, and is blue, black, and steel.
3: any other things, besides the battery-starter wire, that yal think it might be?

Sounds about right...
Look at the steering column where it goes through the firewall. On top of it, about 6" from the firewall, you'll find the ignition switch. They don't go bad much, but it's not impossible that it could be your problem. That would depend on what it's doing.
What are the symptoms? Does the starter do anything at all?

no power to it whatsoever. the starter gear isnt even clicking into position. im taking a voltmeter to it before i do the switch tomorrow. wish me luck! and thanks for the location info. i didnt look on top!!
i was too tired after the crappy day i had to do it right anyways!

You'll need to drop the steering column, there's a brace running across it you unbolt and let it down gently. This will make the switch change much easier, but still a bit if a pain being upside down under the dash with your head against the brake pedal.
ok, got everything off except the cable that hooks to the inhibitor in the back of the switch. hwo do i get that damn thing off! the directions say slip a screwdriver in, but i dont know where to put it in!
