swapped engine, new one won't start
ok.....pulled the LG4 out of my 'bird, dropped in a 350 and need to get it started. I've gotten the timing as close as I can w/o the engine running....starter's turning the engine at around 200 RPM but when cranking the voltmeter's reading a 3v drop.....all 8 cylinders are getting spark...any ideas?
(note: when I bought the car they'd given it a bit of a hack-job to keep it running, cooling fan, fuel pump, etc. kept computer dist. but pulled the computer fuse
)

) the fuel pump the previous owners had put in was working fine (Holley electric for a carb)....when the LG4 went, it either blew a head gasket or slipped a tooth on the timing chain, not sure which.....so fuel delivery *should* be fine....except after I posted and went back to work on it, the pump quit. think it's a bad connection somewhere, I'll look after work tomorrow if I get off early enough. what's normal advance on the timing with vacuum unhooked? I've got it set in the range of 6-10 degrees base advance right now....
