Odometer trip meter is very off

Odometer trip meter is very off
My trip meter is insanely off. in 2 miles of actual distance it'll show about 40 miles. im not sure about the odometer yet but it appears to be working alright, if its off its definetely not as bad as my trip meter. carfax on this car said the odometer had exceeded mechnical limits so it does have a shady odometer history. you think someone just messed with it and broke it or something else that is repairable? can i replace just the trip meter and leave the odometer? do they even sell odometers?

Not many 3rd Gen cars have a tripometer's that work. Mine went five years ago. Also there is no fix that I kown about. If you find one let me know.

oh i didnt know this was a widespread problem on these cars. i guess its a good thing really since i have no idea on the actual MPG my car is getting
