If you don't put a set of headers and exhaust on that engine, you won't feel much difference with a Performer intake. Port and polish the heads, too (follow the link at the end of my sig), and put in a cam similar to the one I run.

Then you'll know that engine is feeling its oats

It's basically a copy of one of the better stock intakes.

That's not what makes the LG4 slow. Don't waste your money unless your current one is broken.

The things those cars (note I said "cars", not "engines") are, in order of importance: exhaust all the way from the heads to the street, but don't buy ANYTHING that fits LG4, get something like 350 TPI headers; then a cam, something like a Comp XE256H or XE262H at the most; then gears, you have 2.73s now, get 3.42 or 3.73; then head work. Somewhere along the line it should get an air cleaner; the best setup is the L69 one, not an open element, and above all not a "drop base" aftermarket one.

I have a 305 in my car right now, came as a L69 car; has the same intake manifold as your car, by part number. It has the stock L69 air cleaner, stock computer-controlled Q-Jet, stock intake, Edelbrock TES and stock L69 exhaust behind that (much larger than LG4 exhaust). The only real mods to it are a set of better-flowing heads (double-humps) and a Comp XR264HR cam. It has every emissions device installed and operating, including the cat, AIR, EGR, etc.; it's set up to pass California emissions isnpection, which it easily did while I lived out there. It puts about 210 HP to the rear wheels - 214 at one dyno, 208 at another; that's more than alot of modded 350 TPI cars can manage. Compare that to a typical LG4 car's 130 or so RW HP.

Notice - the stock intake, same part # as yours. You don't need a different one until you take a whole lot of other restrictions out of your induction system.

Was that using the notoriously accurate "personal butt dyno", or do you have measurements? ETs, lap times, dyno readings?

G-tech alert

Ok, my exhaust is decent. Hedman shorties, lowsy 2.5 inch pipe although the bends are nice, and I now have 3 inch from y-pipe back. 305 heads (the ones on the L69, can't remeber #). Motor is 350 with xr269hr cam. With the stock q-jet manifold right before I took it off it G-teched a best 14.8 at 101 mph. The following day with the Performer RPM it G-teched at 14.7 at 103 mph. I actually made a few runs each time but these two were the only ones I was able to get decent enough traction (my goodyear gatorback IIs have a high tread # 420) to be an accurate assessment. My mphs were a mile or two higer with the performer RPM but for the money and issues with hood clearance I would not do it again. I personally doubt the regular performer will make that much of a difference at all.

However down the road with porting these heads or getting aftermarket ones the RPM way make a bigger difference. Hmm, I wonder if I will do the test again when I do it or just stick the performer RPM on.
