is it timing

hi all my 87 formula 305 ccc will not rev above 2grand it idles great it is also running rich is the timing couseing this thanks

Sounds like the catalytic converter is plugged.

thanks didn't think about that how to check it i could just cut it off no emmisions anyway

it was the cat all better now but the guy i bought the car from thought it was the timing so he messed with the dist. i know how to time it in but there are no timing marks so now what
