odometer Rollback questions

i have an 85 iroc-z with a 305 tpi engine in it. i bought the car with, supposedly, 21,000 original miles. the car has a nearly perfect exterior(no rust, damage, etc.) and the interior is also immaculate. however, i've begun to doubt that the car actually has only 21,000 miles on it. i read in the owners manual about silver lines showing between numerals on the odometer if it's been rolled back, but i found no lines. my question is whether i can pull the odometer out and check to see it was the original one that came with the car, or is there some other way to tell how many miles the car actually has? are there certain parts that usually go bad around a certain amount of miles? what clues will give me an estimate of miles? like i said, the car looks to have 21,000 miles on it, but i want to be sure. any info would be much appreciated. thanks.

Run a CARFAX and see if it comes up with an anomalies, like more mileage then the odometer shows.

i did run a carfax report on the car, and it had no problems, except that carfax said the car had 60,000 miles on it in 1995. however, i dont beleive this b/c what are the chances of this guy coming in to get the car inspected and having exactly 60,000 miles on it. also, i dont think the car could look as good as it does with that many miles on it. i have to find another way to check the mileage...

does carfax happen to list the inspection station that did it? call them. or that guy's other mechanic. that might've just been what they wrote down instead of 60,346 or something. the state dept of transportation / dept of motor vehicles should have some records from registration.

in ohio milage is documented on the title, you can trace titles backwards and find the milage. i'd be more inclined to believe the inspection station and carfax than what the odometer reads.

If it says 60,000 then on CarFax and says 20,000 now or whatever, its either been rolled back or has been around once already. That stinks, you gotta be carefull.

see if the rubber pad on the brake pedal is worn from a foot pressing on it. if it's all worn out then it probably has a lot of miles
