Can I Dump my EVAP Canister?
Hey guys... just wondering if i really need my EVAP purge canister on my car, since all of the other emmitions stuff (A.I.R) is done away with. If you don't know what this is, its the black cylinder-shaped thing dangling from a few hoses off the front of the CC-4bbl carb of my '83 HO Camaro.
Do i need this, or can i just plug all the hoses and do away with this thing? It doesn't appear to do anything, but I also really never knew what it did in the first place, so thats why i asked.
Thanks.

BTW, i have also been looking around in the Engine Swap section and I have seen alot of the swapped in 305/350's did not appear to have one of these, so do i really need this?
Were i live, i don't have to worry about emitions, so that isn't too much of a concern.

Thanks Leigh...
So all i have to do is plug the lines and do away with it, right?
What about the charcoal canister? Does it have to stay or can it be removed too?

EVAP and charcoal canister are the same thing. Don't plug the tank vent line, only the ones that go to the motor.

just be careful where you route that thing and check on it every once in awhile, i had a truck catch fire one time when that happened to loosin its self up and wander into the distributor cap, it was a freak occurance but it can happen

What about putting a valve cover breather on the end? Would this work to keep out junk that shouldn't be there?

A good way to deal with the fuel tank vent tube (evap canister location) is to get a vent fitting like found on the rear axle or both axles on a 4X4 and route it into the fender. This will keep water and dirt from entering the fuel system.

I didnt even put my vent line back under the car after swapping in new lines. I just left the rubber hose hangind above the rear axle. Is this a smart thing to do?
