exhaust leak? lifters? valve?

startring about a week ago, i heard a tapping noise like my lifters were going out, or maybe an exhaust leak. was racing a z28 today, and it all of a sudden got MUCH louder. now, i hear the rapping loud all the time, louder under load, and i can smell raw fuel. also, my car died at a light. any ideas?

most likely an exhaust leak, especially if you smell fuel odor. Probably a blown manifold or header gasket.

Mine did the same thing, it was an exhaust leak. Do you have headers ??? My header bolts were so loose I could turn them with my hands. If it is a header gasket leak , pop your hood and stand over top the engine where you can see the headers. Rev the car using the throttle cable and look for smoke to shoot out from around there. Mine was obvious, I could tell right away.

LOL...the hose going into the collector for the AIR tubes was broken off....hmm...could this be a problem?
i jsut yanked it off, put in some 1/4" plugs into the exhuast manifolds, and used some of that JB-weld style steel stuff to plug up the hose going into the main AIR system.

I doubt that jb weld stuff will hold. You probably need to weld it for real.

couldnt weld it. its just the rubber hose that goes into the AIR system. i needed it to run ASAP and am broke, so i just did that. seems to be holding fine.

appreciate the offer, but i ma about to put headers on it, so im not going ot have AIR anyways.
