balancer question

Is there some type of tool available to hold the balancer from turning while you tighten the crank bolt? Also does anyone know the torque specs for the bolt (90 5.7).

Thanks

Is the engine in the car or out of the car?

I've never had trouble tightening the crank bolt...as normally once it gets snug, it will start to turn the engine over before anything else...

More info...

It is in the car, there are no other pulleys or anything on the car though. Also I dont have the plugs in. That is what is happening, the bolt is all of the way in and now it just turns the engine over, shouldnt I torque it down now that it is in all the way? Or should I wait until I have the accesories back on and the belt and just snug it up then?

Bolt the crank sheaves back onto the face of the balancer, then use a strap wrench on the steel sheave. Usig a strap wrench on the outer ring of the balancer can cause the ring to slip, and result in incorrect timing marks.

A strap wrench can be purchased at many places for about ten bucks, and can be a very useful tool for rotating the engine, removing oil filters, spinning exhaust pipes, removing alternator sheaves, etc.
