A flywheel from an '86 or newer one will...needs to be the 1-piece rear main seal part, pre '86 ones are 2-piece rear main seal pattern and won't bolt to the LT1 crank.

Using an 86 and up flywheel, you cold bolt in any 82-92 Camaro/firebird manual transmission. The problem is that none of the manual transmissions that came in thirdgens are strong enough to hold up behind an LT1. a TH700R4 will take the power, but not a T5. I'd recommend a T56 from a 93-97 Camaro/Firebird.

The trans does not care if the engine is a LT1. If it's a V8 trans, it will bolt up and work, as long as you use the 86-up V8 flywheel and a V8 bell housing. The 6-cyl trans will not work unless you use some other 6-cyl clutch I don't know which one, and the 6-cyl BH will absolutely not work period.

Long-term survival ios a different matter. That's a function of driver behavior as much as anything else. You can (or at least I sure can) tear up a T-5 with a 305; I can also make one live behind a 400 that eats LT1s for lunch.
