Will a flat base air cleaner work????

My intake setup will consist of:

-Edelbrock Performer RPM Air Gap intake manifold
-Holley 700 double pumper carb (4150 series)
-Open element air cleaner

I have the ASCD ram air hood on my camaro, so it basically has the same clearance as a 1.5" or 2" cowl induction hood. Will a flat based air cleaner work, or do I need to go with a recessed base? I want it so that the filter is pretty close to inline with the ram air opening. Thanks in advance.

it would probably work with a small filter but if you go with a drop base you will have the option of using a much larger element filter.. im not sure about your carb.. i have the same intake but i have a 650 dp and a drop base will not clear the rear fuel bowl.. i have a drop base with a one inch spacer under it to provide some clearance and i have a 3 inch element and a 4 inch cowl hood and that leaves me with about a cm of hood clearance

The flat base fit my setup with a 14x3 filter until I needed to run a carb spacer because the outer threads on the manifold got wiped beyond repair.
