Where can I get an EGR Valve fairly cheap?
Where can I get an EGR Valve fairly cheap?
Hello,
I am looking for an EGR Valve for a 1991 Camaro RS V6. I went to autozone, and discount auto. Autozone told me 163.99 for the EGR Valve, and Discount Auto told me $170 for the EGR Valve and Gasket. I am wondering, where could I find one cheaper than this (new naturally).
Thank you
Brian

You can try Kragen, and thats about it. After that, its only going to get MORE expensive, like say if you go to the dealer. You have one of those electronic EGR valves, which are not cheap. Have you tried to fix the one you already have? If anything, try to pick one up at your local boneyard.

If you get the real GM part #, you could try http://www.gmpartsdirect.com . I'm so glad I have a vacuum-operated EGR.
There's gotta be a way to convert a digital EGR into a vacuum-op'd EGR, isn't there?

LOL... no, I mean actually rewiring the car to take the vac-op'd EGR system... the switch, solenoid, & valve. Oh... wait... doesn't the digital EGR open up incrementally? Hm, never mind.

Presumably, you could install a stepper motor vacuum valve to accomplish the same thing. By the time you're done, you'd have the same functionality for probably a greater cost.
If it makes you feel any better, many/most cars now have direct-drive digital EGRs, so we're all hopping into the same boat. Your's just happend to be one of the first ones in the water. (Other cars had them as early as 1987).
