Big Block 454 For '89

I have been seriously thinking about dropping a 454 BBC into my 89 IROC-Z. I would like to know what anybody that has done this did to their car so it would accept a big block. I would like to know everything that you did to the car especially any changes to the body and any changes to for example fuel pump, fuel tank, etc. The only thing that I have changed on my body is that I have a 4 inch Harwood Cowl Induction Hood. Thank you very much for the help.

Do a search. I know it's been done before. I know there are issues with the wiper motor, trans tunnel and hood clearance. But I guess with a 4" cowl hood that's a non-issue.

I was seriously considering dropping a 500 Caddy engine into mine....... Still thinkin hard about it!!! Talk about a torque monster!!! :hail:

I've seen actual pictures and what-not looking into this myself, and they're around. Good luck.

Why would BBC cause a trans tunnel issue? The distance between the side motor mounts and bell housing is exactly the same between SBC & BBC.

Firewall, I can imagine. Header collector to floor pan, I can imagine. But, not trans tunnel.

Nah, I recall a site where the guy posted pics and everything. Whether it was the trans tunnel or firewall, I can't recall.. I do know that it involved a mini-sledge and hammering for trans clearance or something like that. I'm no expert!!! Just letting the guy know there's tech articules out there. Hope that's OK with everyone. j/k
