coil mount and location

Hey guys. I ordered a coil bracket from my local dealership and also ordered a MSD Blaster 2 coil from Summit. Supposedly the coil is bolt on. The bracket I got is a Z shaped plate with 4 holes drilled into it. From what I have gathered in other posts the bracket bolts to the back 2 intake bolts on the passenger side of the car. Then somehow the coil bolts up to the bracket using the other 2 holes left. The coil came with all the mounting accessories but I can't figure out how it all bolts up. Am I correct in assuming the bracket bolts up where I said it does? Also, could I have gotten the wrong bracket? If I do have everything that I need could someone please give this dumbass a little help. Thanks and Drive On...............

I know what you're talking about. Does your car not have the coil on it for some reason? Anyways, that bracket does bolt onto the intake on the back two bolts on the passenger side. It should stick up at 90 degrees, and then have a 90 degree bend in it where the other two holes are. You should have a horizontal surface to mount your coil on. Your new coil probably doesn't have the mounting bracket on it. When I replaced my coil, I had to take the bracket off the old coil. It is riveted on there, so you'll have to grind the rivets off. No big deal. Use a grinder if you have one, if not, just use a file. Use a hammer and a punch (screwdriver), and punch the rivets out of the bracket. Your new coil should have come with some bolts to mount it to the coil. Hook all that up, and then you're ready to mount THAT bracket to the bracket on the intake. MY bracket that is on the intake has two nutplates in it. If yours doesn't have nut plates, then you'll have to either rivet some on there (Don't unless you know how to rivet stuff), or you can just use bolts and nuts. Also, there is another thing that bolts onto the bracket on the intake. It's on my 88 GTA anyways. It mounts on the same two holes that the coil does, and goes underneath the coil. Run the bolts through the coil and this other thing. I don't know what it is, but it has two vacum lines coming out of it. Some sort of sensor. I hope this all made sense. If it's still confusing, let me know and I'll take some pictures of mine with my digital camera and post them for you. Can't have a GTA sitting in the driveway! Matt

Thanks for the reply Matt. You definately solved my problem as to how the thing mounts up. However that did create another problem for me, the coil that was on my car was mounted over on the fenderwell and the coil doesn't have the bracket thats supposed to be on the coil. So my question now is where can I find that? Thanks again for the info. Drive on..........

On the fenderwell? That's weird. Anyways, the only place I would think you could find that coil bracket, is at a dealer (maybe), or a salvage yard. When you buy a coil, it doesn't come with that bracket. You could probably pick one up for about $15 at a salvage yard since they'd probably rip you off and sell you the whole coil. Then you'll have to take it and grind those rivets off! Tomorrow when it's light out, I'll take a picture of mine so you knw what it looks like and what to get! Matt
