Really Old Gas

Im close to getting my camaro to run. The gallon or 2 of gas in it is about 2 years old. Obviously I need to drain it. Im just wondering if theres any treatment or cleaning that I need to do to the tank?

Instead of draining the existing fuel, top off the tank with fresh LOW octane fuel. Lower octane fuel is more volatile, and should help dilute the dead fuel in the tank. It would be good if you could fill it with an ethanol-blend, in case there is any latent moisture in the tank along with the old fuel.

Of course, if the tank is rusted internally, you'll need to drin and flush the tank before you do anything.

In any event, you'll need to install a new fuel filter right away to trap anything that has fallen loose or precipitated from the fuel. You may need to change the filter again in a couple of months just to make sure you trap all the debris. Hopefully, the pump will tolerate anything it sucks up.
