stupid air pump
stupid air pump
replacing the 305 with a 350 in a 91 RS. keeping AC, so i transferred over the mounting brackets, etc.
to keep the same setup, belt, etc, i still have the air pump attached (but hoses and attachments are disconnected).
i went to turn the pulley that the air pump was attached to and it wouldnt budge. put wd40 in it to get it to move a little.
i read post on "time to srip" and someone said that the water pump will drain more hp then this pump.
should it turn more freely? well with the way its acting, it will drain alot of hp.

Normally, and A.I.R. pump takes almost no power to turn. Yours' however, will take a lot, since it sounds like it's locked up. You can try to free it up, open and repair it, or get a junkyard (excuse me - "recycled") pump to replace it. You could get a new one, but th ecost can be prohibitively high. A remanufactured pump with a warranty is available at some parts stores, as long as you have a core to exchange (which, you DO). Advance Auto/Parts America has remans for $51.49 (plus the $15 core which you get back),which isn't oo bad if you have to pass an emissions inspection.
