I can get one fully rebuilt for $850...assuming my core is good.

I could probably get one that came out of a 89-92 RS for like 300-400 bucks. I want the RS one because the 5th gear is more freeway friendly.

What should I do? Money IS a factor here.

The RS has a 5th gear of 0.63, the LB9 ( IrOC) had 0.74.
Check on the equations section on this site. It lists them. I have one right now with a 5th gear of .74 and I guzzle too much gas. Plus I want a World Class T-5

I highly doubt that considering there are plenty of guys knocking down 32 mpg with STOCK RS's. They is no way in hell that they would be doing that with a 0.73 5th gear. The RS was produced for the economist, not the performance enthusiast, keep that in mind.

I swear you guys with the Z-28's always want to be better than the RS in every way. Get over it. These transmissions were also used for road racing in the 1LE, and if they did have the 0.63 5th gear that would be a pretty crappy ratio for SCCA racing.

If you don't believe me, look on the freakin' EQUATIONS part of this site! They list every ratio for every trans produced in thirdgens!

If your core is good why not rebuild it yourself? It's easy to do and a complete rebuild kit is only about $150-175. And I'm one of those guys that claim to have got 30-32 MPG with my RS 5-speed, it went 450-465 miles on a tank several times on a cross country trip @ 75+MPH with the air on most of the time!!.

More than you think. It depends on the rear gears....considering I'm at the top of 4th in the 1/4 from a dead stop...I'd imagine that SCCA cars would use thier 5th gear quite frequently on the straights. My car is not all that fast, but with 3.73 gears, you end up topping out the car in about a 1/2 mile.
