Replacing weatherstripping, need help..
I am ordering new weatherstripping for the trunk on my 92 bird. Is there any thing that I should look out for because this is the first time that I have done this? Any parts that I should have? The www.1aauto.com site says to have 3M adhesive for the weatherstripping. Is it usually a pain to pull out the trunk weatherstripping on a 3rdgen? Any tips on taking it out or putting it back in? Also, they sell the strips of 18 feet for the trunk, I am assuming this will be plenty. What did you guys use to cut the weatherstripping with? Any help is greatly appreciated.
3M Weatherstrip Adhesive is great for that. I think it's Part No. 08071, or something like that.
Make sure you thoroughly clean and dry the channel/lip first. Get all of the old seal and adheisve off of there. Trial fit the seal without adhesive. Mark the ends where they overlap, then cut the seal about 2" too long. The seal will shrink over time, so packing a little extra over the lip channel won't hurt. Use a new single-edge razor blade to make a clean, square cut at both ends. When you glue it in place, dab adhesive at both ends of the new seal to bond them together. Position the joint/seam at the trailing edge of the rear hatch (where the factory did). Do not close the lid until the adhesive at the seam has had a chance to set up.
It's really not that difficult, but plan on taking your time to do it right.

Mineral spirits will soften the old adhesive without damaging the paint. You'll have to soften it then wipe it away with cloths or paper towels. Do not use anything abrasive or scrapers. Any paint damage there will turn to rust in a short time. If you alreay have rust, now is the time to repair it.
I'm going to jump in here a second..
What about weather stripping for T-Tops?
On both sides of the car, The weather stripping on the t-tops, going towards the back, the last section (maybe an inch or 2 long) comes down... Whenever you try to shut either door, you have to SLAM it to get it to shut all of the way (weather stripping stops it) . With the T-Tops off, the door shuts easily.
Anyone know what I could do to fix this (besides cutting that part off), or possible take off all of it from the T-Tops, and re-align it, so it's straight? Not sure how to go about that.
