How much knock is normal

Well topic says most of what I would like to know. When in normal operation what is normal knock? I did data logging run earlier today and noted 0-4 knock. I was also running rich. What is normal? Can I turn my timing up a degree or two? Will that help the rich reading?

You should not get any knock! I guess you have a 305, right?
It could be too much timing or your exhaust hitting the frame or noisy valve train... the list goes on. If you have the 305, they are detonation prone sometimes. Good luck

If you have a really good ear, you might be able to hear the one or two "test" knocks that the system will normally produce as the ESC finds its range. You can also create a detonation condition if you've been cruising for awhile, lightly coast to a stop, then accelerate hard. Again, you might hear one or two very faint detonations as the ESC adjusts.

Your knock counts are pretty low. How rich is "rich"? What are the BLM numbers for fuel offset?

when I said my car was running rich I mean my blm at idle is 108 and the highest it went under any condition was 128. REALLY rich. Luckily I don't have to drive it much.

Is there any way to test for a leaky injector?

0-4 knock isn't anything to worry about. Most of the time you will get SOME knock on start-up and some on shut down. The knock sensor picks up all the stuff going on during those times.

Assuming you're using WinALDL or something like it, it's best if you don't have any knock in the "middle" of the Spark Counts field. If you see a knock count occur during cruise or throttle tip in then I'd do something about it.

In reality, 0-4 is NOTHING to worry about, unless it happens consistantly in one place.

108 BLM means the ECM is bottomed out...so you're right about being very rich.

Thanks for the reply. I gathered data with winaldl. I had 0 knock at first for a minute or two then in increased to one then two then after quite a while 3, 4, 5. After that I had finished my driving and it didn't go any farther. I'm having trouble reading all hte data because I don't know what it all means.

I'm worried about the rich condition. I'm beginning to wonder if it is a leaky injector. I just did some of the ultimate TBI stuff but I was rich before that. I didn't make the FPR adjustable. If I can find a way to verify that I don't have a mechanical problem then I suppose I could just turn the fuel pressure down.

Anyone want to volunteer to help me make heads or tails from this Data?

Bill

Throw out the data for us to see, and you may get some assistance.

I was going to post this earlier but I noticed that the attachment button will only work for image formats. Anyway if anyone would be willing to take a look at this and provide feedback it would be greatly appreciated.

It all just looks like a bunch of numbers to me but I think I'm starting to get the blm thing.
