timing problems
timing problems
While driving today I noticed there was some pinging under a load. Then I had a hesitation and a popping throught the throttle body when trying to accerate. When I got home I got out the timing light. Base timing was fine with the wire disconnected at the firewall. I reconnected the wire and watched timing as I moved the throttle. The timing didn't advance and popped through the TBI again. The problem seems to be intermitent. Do I have a bad sensor or maybe a loose wire somewhere?

Rose,
Welcome Aboard!
Your timing at idle should have advanced 10° or more when you reconnected the EST bypass connector. You may want to check the knock sensor wiring, connector, and sensor condition (road debris can damage the sensor). If nothing is obviously damaged or disconnected, check the EST connections to the distributor and to the ECM harness.
