Lg4

I have an '84 firebird S/E that I bought about three years ago as a project car. It has the LG4 305 v8 with 4bbl carb, making 150 horsepower. I want to try, if possible to get the horsepower up to at least 200. Any suggestions on what modifications I can do? I'm really only looking to spend 300 or 400 dollars on whatever upgrades are necessary. Sorry guys I'm kind of a cheapo. Thanks ahead of time.

Your not gonna be able to get 50hp for that little bit of money. Id say a set of headers and a catback might give you 20hp maybe. Buts thats already over the limit.

make a dual snorkel air cleaner, advance the timing, get a set of DR or CK rods and a B hanger for the carb secondaries, adjust the AV flap on the secondaries (tech article on this on the homepage of this site). then, find a set of used headers on ebay or ina swap meet or a junk yard as well as a cat back. i think you can do all of this for under 400 bucks.... this will make your LG4 much faster and much more fun to drive...

full exhaust (headers cat and cat back, for a tpi car), and an open element air cleaner will get you closer. A bigger cam will put you at +50hp easy. You should be able to do the exhaust w/o a cat for around $400.

Is there any specific camshaft you would suggest getting? I'm not too familiar with them.

not 50 hp, maybe 35-40. the cam in the lg4 really sucks. i believe the specs are something like .174/.194 @ .05 with lift in the mid to high 300's...

Check my sig. I'm not sure what kind of horsepower the car has now, but the mods I've certainly awoken the boy.
