350 Factory Stock Gm Crate Motor ?

I was jsut wondering this motor comes off jegs for around 3200 hundred shipped and has 350hp. Are those numbers correct cuz i thought it only had 330hp. Also what would i have to do to the heads(if any) to put in a xe286 cam(i believe thats what it is or the compatiable one that i have seen people putting in it)and what kind of hp u think it would push out.(w/o work done to anything else)

A p/n, link, or some hint other than price w/shipping (since they don't list their prices that way) would be helpful.

That's the circle track crate engine that GM offers, they do rate it at 350hp. I don't see why though, it has all the same specs as the 330hp HO other than the special oil pan, etc. I don't know... I'm also not sure on what all the factory sealed stuff is. The regular 350 HO Deluxe 330hp motor also comes with a carb, flexplate, and water pump, but it costs around $3300...

Here's the 330hp regular GM crate engine: http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...28&prmenbr=361

Perhaps the HP rating is due to the carb, the 330hp motor comes and is rated with a 600cfm carb, the circle track motor says it was rated with a 650cfm. That's the only differences in components I see that should matter. I wouldn't have thought that would be worth much if anything though...

The largest cam you'd want to run on the unmodified Vortec heads would be the XE268, and it would be pushing the limit. I believe it specs out at 224/230 @.050, lift of .477/.480 but double check me. That is absolute max lift I would run stock, and I'd want to check clearances to avoid problems. To be safe and/or to run any higher you'd want to go with different springs and get the valve guide bosses cut down a bit for more clearance with the spring retainers. I am running the XE262 on mine to play it a little on the safe side (218/224 @.050, lift of .462/.469)...

The one in the link has a much better cam.

I wonder what class of racing requires that motor, sealed like that....

Late model class at Nashville Fairground Speedway. I use to do some engine machining on a couple of team cars. Last year the track officials got word of a couple of $20,000 motors and decided enough was enough. They went to a sealed create motor from GM Performance to cut cost for the smaller teams. If a team loses a motor before Saturday night they can hop over to the Chevy dealer and get another. With the sealed motor there are check pins to tell if the motor has been opened at all. Sucks because it took a bit of my business, but I have made up for it in other areas.

Than what? Are you talking about the hp rating difference between the two engines? Both the circle track and the standard GM Deluxe HO engines have the same cam with 212/222 @.050, .435/.460 lift

I built this motor myself before the HO crate engine was available, so it was not the actual 330hp crate engine (although very similar). So I can't speak to the gain from that cam over the other. It's not really that much different. If I were guessing I'd think it would be good for something in the 15-25 hp range...
