Leak

Guys i was wondering how much an exhaust leak would effect performance on the car. It runs good at start up but after about 10 miles of driving u get a wierd whoosh noise threw the exhaust. COuld be the headers i dont really know yet:-(. But i was just wondering how much this would effect performance.

an exhaust leak will not hinder performance..unless it is huge...it just sounds bad.

Well this sure feels like it is hindering performance. This oly happens after a while of driving the car(maybe10minutes) then the exhaust noise will sound different and it feels like i have lost 50 horses!COuld this be a vaccum leak? Im lost

sometimes after the engine warms up the leak on a header gasket will seal up some....I know when mine were leaking , the car felt like it was running worse..but I think it was just psycholgical use a mechanics stethoscope around your exhaust manifolds or headers whichever the case..you will find it if it is there....rule out one thing before looking for others...

If you're still using the ECM and oxygen sensor, any exhaust leak in the manifold/header area can admit air to the system that will dilute the exhaust gasses and skew the ECM reading of the mixture. This usually results in an excessively rich mixture in an attempt to compensate.
