Timing

ok last weekend i had a feeling i'd adjust the timing... just got my summer tires under the car and i'm 100% sure the timing is not dot on since we have different octane fuel over here than you guys and i've had pinging atleast once.. so how much advance would you guys run with 95 octane fuel?? and another thing... where the h*ll are the timing marks?? i have a chiltons manual but couldn't find the marks based on the manual... i tried looking for the marks with a timing light but couldn't find them after and hour... so i have looked.. what should i do if the marks have worn off or something??? could somebody post a pic where the marks are... i had an understanding that the timing marks are on the drivers side on the main pully ( you know the one connected to the crankshaft.. got my terms mixed up )

I really need your help on this easy question...

look down behind the water pump to see the top of the balancer and timing marks... thats where my timing marks are located.

You timing marks should be located under the water pump. You may have to clean the area to find them. It also helps to paint or chalk a line in the groove of the harmonic balancer ring to make timing easier:



As for the timing setting, I'd advise starting at no more than 8° BTC and slowly incrementing upward every couple of days driving until you experience poorer performance.

thats exacty the place i looked for it.. i didn't see a mark on eather the block nor the balancer... sould there be a line on the balancer?? should the mark on the block be v shaped?? i haven't seen anything... well time to do some engine bay spring cleaning... my cars a daily driver and the winters over here aren't anything the cars hoping for

i'm pretty sure my o2s gone bad and giving false v readings... i can't be sure cus i can't fit my hands down there and i can only get to the garage next week... could i use a heated o2 sensor if i deside to change it??? i assume it's a 0.450v sensor... what kind of threads does the manifold have?? i'm gonna replace it with a european one if i can find one that fit the job.
