Tune up problems
Tune up problems
Howdy all,
I have an '84 Firebird. The other day I tuned it up by replacing the following parts:
Plugs
Wires
rotor
Distributor cap
PCV valve
Fuel filter.
Now my problem:
I took it down the road and it is not running all that good. When I give it gas and it sputters(?). I am thinking that it could be a bad plug or wire? Could any of you give me any ideas on where to look? When I get up to my cruise speed, 55 - 65 MPH it seems to run fine. This problem was not there until I changed the plugs and wires.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Jim

did u put the wires on right? double check the firing order, u might have screwed the order up. if not, make sure all your plug wires are snapped onto the sparkplugs. u got to push it till they snap in place, and they should be hard to remove if they are on right.

I'd systematically put the old parts back on, one at a time, until you narrow down the problem. Start with the easy stuff first, like the PCV valve and distributor parts. If you don't notice a change with the old part, put the new one back on.
You might also want to make sure that the wires aren't shorting out on anything. One time, my stock wires melted onto the exhaust manifold and caused a miss.

thanks for all the great responses. I found what was wrong. I took all the plugs out and inspected them. And darned if it wasn't the last plug. I was pulling the wire and half the darn plug came with it. I cleaned and put one of the old plugs back in and walla, Works like a charm.
Thanks all!
