what timing u running
I know that 'ideally' you're supposed to run as advanced as you can without the engine pinging, but i'm just curious what everybody runs anyway.

Thats not nessessaryily "ideal" at all.
Are you talking about a noncomputer controlled
vacuum advance carb distributor?
Try 12 to 16 initial advanceing to 32 to 36 total mechanical
advance at 3000 rpm. Vacuum advance should add another 10 to 20deg timing at high vacuum hiway cruise.
This is a good street performance advance curve for a SBC.
