I get mad when I am at WOT and a minivan passes me!!!!

Hey guys,
I was leaving school today and this kid who I know was behind me in a plymouth voyager minivan. He was on my A$$, and I punched it to get away from him, so he switches lanes and passes me at WOT!!! What are these 3.1's worth nothing? I cant even beat a **** minivan? What can I do to change this.

Maybe he had NOS...2 of them...big ones?

Sounds like you need a tuneup, or atleast kick the fat chicks out of the car.

Ur car, is it an automatic? You Probably have 3.23 gears, possibly 3.08. A cheap mod that worked for me was getting a rear end from a 4 cyl stick 83 model camaro/firebird (3.70 RATIO) now some had 3.42's which aint bad either but i think the 3.70 ratio was a GT4 option code you can find in the console between the seats. you can get those rear ends fairly cheap from a salvage yard. the reason also that he blew past you might be the minivan was newer, and front wheel drive takes less power to turn. By putting the 3.70 ratio rear end in ur car, you are doing the same. so ur car will definitly accelerate faster. another mod is to set ur TPS, although ppl say it doent make a difference, it does. the TPS setting is probably @ .60 volts. Set it @.7 -.74 volts. it is a speed density car, so you can easily goto .9 volts before it affects idle. also, get an adjustable fuel regulator, set it @ 45-50 psi. these are really cheap mods that will make a difference. id say up tp 50 bucks for the rear end and 50 bucks for the fuel regulator. Id personally for sure get the rearend and set the TPS up to .74 volts. it will pin u in the seat harder! Also, if the car needs a tune up, you can put one step hotter in it, ur car i think takes r43tsk, id put r44tsx (.060" gap). buddy has an 88 camaro we put r45tsx's in it and it runs well. hey, just giving you some cheap mods to get more power out of it.

A lot of minivans put out sick amounts of power. I know my moms minivan puts out 220 from the v6 and I have a hunch that it could beat my IROC 0-30

you are runnin all that stuff with a stock TBI manifold??? Edelbrock makes a good one. also, i had an idea with my 89 rs. running a singleplane manifold (torker 2 i use) you run less carb. i was going to adapt my T/B to a squarebore/spreadbore adapter, than place it on the torquer 2 manifold. ive also seen this done with a manifold that supports 2 carbs, he had 2 t/b's that went pretty good. it was in a 84 vette. i know this sounds "barbaric", but it may have worked with heads around 170 cc's or better.

That minivan may have had a 3.3L V-6, and been almost the same weight as your ThirdGen. It likely didn't have a lot of wheelspin, either.

probably a 3.8, the 3.3's are pretty f'in slow.. i work on em every day ya i work for chrysler.. i know i know.. but they pay me pretty well one of the guys i work with has a bone stock 305 tpi trans am and i raced him with one of the newer 3.8 vans and pretty much ate him off the line and top end wise.. they're pretty quick for minivans.. run mid 16's stock.. lol theres actually a guy at the local drag strip around here that has a twin turbo set up on his 3.8 mini van and it eats my camaro for breakfast 11.3 in the 1/4th with a front wheel drive minivan.. haha

yea just about anything will.. those 3.3s are horrible engines.. slower then most engines half their size.. the 2.4 4 cylinder actually has better pick up

Sad part is i wasnt racing, he out accelerated me, and gears have nothing to do with it, the rpms climb at the right rate in my honest opinion (3.23 limited slip)

those RS's are really turtles. the Irocs do a WHOLE lot better. if ur rs is a v-8, then it will definitely have 2.73 gears and with only 240 foot lbs max ur runnin VERY slow. get 3.42 from a 6 cylinder 2.8 camaro around a 88 ,model. this will liven that turtle effect. mostly, theres not much you can d performance wise with the engine. they are swirl head design (half the intake runner is blocked off) the already restrictive heads. getting heads off a 305 or even a 350 TPI motor will do WONDERS.

Just cuz it is a camaro doesn't mean it is fast, just cuz it is a minivan doesn't mean it is slow. Why isn't this in the street racing/bs board anyway?

This guy has V6, not a TBI V8. Anyways, the easiest thing would be to swap in a V8.

My folks have a 3.8 V6 caravan, can you say "tire smoke for ~40 or feet" (add a slight right turn if you can't imagine it). When ever my car was down, I loved beating my friends' civics back in HS with the mini-van. About the funniest thing I've read today, getting passed on the left by a minivan while at WOT. HAHAAHAH

Speaking of minivans, my mom had a 4.3 liter 98 GMC Safari van which is basically a cinder-block on wheels. However, that thing would freakin fly. I wasted so many cars with that thing. It would go from 0-100 (governor) in no time. I loved it.

I am not trying to cover it up, but I think he was passing me when i started to gain on him. I just wish I could have a little advantage over a minivan lol.
