Does G-Tech really work??
depends on what you want to know....I'm getting a Vericom (the old 200 model) off of eBAY which I've used (Mankato State University-Automotive Engineering Technology program)and can vouch for the accuracy of these 'silly little boxes'. The G-Tech is essentially the same thing so go for it!

They're pretty acurate. If they are off then it's usually only by .1-.2 in the e/t and around 1-2mph in the traps. But other than that it's pretty accurate. I want to try that on my car. I can get one for 70 bucks. But for now I don't have that.

I think the benefit to having a G-Tech is being able to do comparitive tests. That way you can do your latest mod, and compare the latest result to an earlier one.
I have a G-Tech, but I wouldn't quote the result until I have a timeslip to back it up. My feeling is: the results from the G-Tech are slightly optimistic, but if the timeslip confirms it's accuracy, I'll take it!

It is definely worth it especially if you don't have a drag strip near you. I bought one 3 years ago and it has helped me see what has worked in modifying my engine. I use 0-60 times mainly because 1/4 mile speeds are too high for the roads around here. I started with 0-60 times in the mid 7s and am up to 5.45 this year. My most dramatic mod was drag radials. I had the power but couldn't get it to the pavement. With the G-tech I saw a gain of .5 sec with these tires(0-60). Get the G-tech and record each modification result.

I have a g-tech and it reads 2 tenth fast and about 3-5 miles per hour high when compared to the actual dragstrip. I have used it during time runs at the strip, and it will read 13.81 at 103 MPH when my car runs a 14.01 at 98 MPH.
I believe it is worth getting because mine consistantly reads 2 tenths fast. Since it always reads 2 tenths fast on my car, I can still tell if my changes are helping or hurting.

I find them to be useful if you can't get to a track often, and do mod your car sometimes to see the change, and most importantly you have a flat stretch of road somewhere traffic free. Cause I know I hate having to wait till like 12am to go out and run the car.

I been in acouple of my buddys cars at the track, and using a Gtech during a run it was always within .1 of there actual time and 3mph trap speed. The only thing I can't figure out is that everyone here says there pretty acurate, but alot of guys (other posts) try saying the gtech must of been off when they see my gtech time for my truck. But I guess its a blow to ones pride when there V8 sports car is slower that a truck.

New ones can measure TQ, but they're a bit more.

I've seen reports in a couple mags about the G-Tech. They tested them at the strip.
The reason they say the 1/4 mile is off by as much as .2 sec is the G-Tech does not take certain things into consideration, especially weight transfer, and roll out.
The reason they're off by 3-5MPH is the G-Tech clocks your speed at the exact same time you cross the 1/4 mile "mark". At the strip, your MPH is averaged over the last 60' of the track, so it'll always read "slower".

The biggest factor in the g-tech's performance seems to be the road it's tested on, it should be flat, straight, and level or else your results will be off.
It is not 100% accurate but is fairly close, I have one and love it because I can get a good estemite of how the car performes before and after my mods.
For best results do a few runs and average the times........you'll find that your not off by more then .10-.25 seconds and 2-5mph, which to me is acceptible.
